AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Award winners were named, just weeks ago, and guess who stole the show? If you guessed GMC, then you'd be correct! For the third consecutive year, GMC was named 'Most Ideal Popular Brand' in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards.
Furthering their achievement, GMC had three models claim top bragging rights in their respective segments - one of only two automakers to do so in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards. GMC's top-selling vehicle (and a Ferguson favorite), the GMC Sierra, led the Light Duty Pickup segment for the second straight in a row, while the Yukon and Yukon XL ranked highest in the Large SUV segment. The GMC Acadia rounded out the trio as it claimed the title in the Large Crossover SUV segment.
To conduct the awards, AutoPacific surveys new owners of 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles across all major manufacturers. AutoPacific asks the new owners if they would make any changes to their new vehicle; in 15 key categories including: interior storage, acceleration & technology, ride & handling, and safety features. Over 65,000 new vehicle owners are surveyed.
According to AutoPacific's President, George Peterson, "By asking vehicle owners if they would change various aspects of their vehicle if given the opportunity, we not only identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement, but we also find out which manufacturers are truly hitting the mark with owners."
Winning AutoPacific's 2016 Ideal Vehicle 'Most Ideal Popular Brand' Award for the third consecutive year demonstrates how GMC's commitment to quality and refinement is resonating with new owners. GMC is effectively blending capability, technology, and precision design throughout their lineup of new SUVs and trucks.
The 2016 GMC Sierra, winner in the Light Duty Pickup segment, offers an impressive combination of styling, power, and tech & safety features. With its available EcoTec3 5.3L V8 engine offers the best V8 fuel economy in any full-size pickup.
The 2016 GMC Yukon, winner in the Large SUV segment, can accommodate up to nine passengers with three rows of seating. With its bold styling, premium materials, and inspiring capability, Yukon creates a new standard in full-size utility.
The 2016 GMC Acadia, winner in the Large Crossover SUV segment, personifies GMC's never say never attitude with its accommodating space and functionality. The 2016 and the all-new 2017 GMC Acadia SUVs are both available at Ferguson Buick GMC in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
It may come as no surprise that trucks are quite popular in Texas. When it comes to US roads, Texas leads the way with more than 300,000 total miles of roads and streets. That's not including the back roads in the Texan countryside. With so much terrain to cover, it's no wonder way Texans rely on capable trucks to commute.
But what truck is the best option for truck lovers in Texas? Well, that'd be the GMC Sierra. The GMC Sierra was named the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion, in a head-to-head capability test conducted by editors from MrTruck.com, PickupTrucks.com, and Cars.com.
The Sierra went head-to-head against the Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition with the 5.7L V-8, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the 5.7L V-8, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ with the 5.3L V-8, Ford F-150 Lariat with the 3.5L V-6 EcoBoost and came out on top! Beating the competition with its powerful – 420 hp and 460 lb-ft – engine; the most powerful engine out of the group. The Sierra beat the competition in fuel economy, with a trailer attached, as well.
The editors of the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown praised the Sierra 1500 SLT test truck, for its effortless performance. It offered a max trailering rating of 12,000 lbs. PickupTrucks.com editor, Mark Williams, had the following to say about the GMC Sierra's performance, "This is a mild-mannered pickup that is ready to don its cape and do some heavy lifting, saving the day from a long list of work chores. The engine and transmission are synced up like a smooth-flying jet rocket."
Being crowned the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion validates everything GMC stands for: powerful truck capability uniquely coupled with premium appointments and refinement. Combined crafted interior with bold new styling for 2016, the Sierra handles the toughest tasks in the utmost comfort.
The 2016 Sierra 1500 boasts a bold new look thanks to a new grille, new headlamps with GMC signature LED lighting, available LED tail lights, and distinctive trim elements designed for each trim level. 2016 Sierra HD models are also available with a new Digital Steer Assist system, which eases driving and maneuvering a heavy-duty pickup.

The 2016 GMC Sierra will be the most technology advance Sierra ever. What sets the 2016 GMC Sierra apart from other trucks? Answer: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone integration technology, new GMC owners will never be disconnected.
GMC's team of engineers understand that truck owners need to stay connected, even while on the go. So, GMC took popular smartphone features and gave 2016 Sierra owners access to them by putting them on the truck’s display in a smart, user-friendly configuration.
Apple CarPlay gives 2016 Sierra drivers the ability to send and receive messages, make calls, and listen to music right from the touchscreen or by voice via Siri. Apple CarPlay-supported apps include Music and third-party audio apps, Maps, Messages, and Phone apps.
For truck owners who have an Android device instead of Apple; don’t fret, GMC has you covered as well, with Android Auto. Android Auto is built around Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google, as well as a growing audio and messaging app ecosystem that includes podcast players, Spotify, Google Play Music, Skype and WhatsApp. At the beginning of production only some of the 2016 Sierra models will be equipped with Android Auto; however, all 2016 GMC Sierra’s will be equipped with the innovation technology later on.
Did we mention all this technology is user-friendly? Using either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto inside the 2016 Sierra will be a piece of cake - even for those of us who are slightly less technology savvy. Simply look for a “Projection” icon on the IntelliLink screen to tell you if a phone is not connected, and watch for it to change. Once the icon changes your smartphone device is connected; ready for your enjoyment.
Apart from its technology advancements, the 2016 GMC Sierra is a much bolder and more refined truck. The new 2016 GMC Sierra will be available in the fourth quarter of this year. For more details about the 2016 GMC Sierra visit www.fergusonbuickgmc.com/2016_GMC_Sierra
