GMC Sierra was named the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion

It may come as no surprise that trucks are quite popular in Texas. When it comes to US roads, Texas leads the way with more than 300,000 total miles of roads and streets. That's not including the back roads in the Texan countryside. With so much terrain to cover, it's no wonder way Texans rely on capable trucks to commute.

But what truck is the best option for truck lovers in Texas? Well, that'd be the GMC Sierra. The GMC Sierra was named the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion, in a head-to-head capability test conducted by editors from MrTruck.com, PickupTrucks.com, and Cars.com.

The Sierra went head-to-head against the Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition with the 5.7L V-8, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the 5.7L V-8, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ with the 5.3L V-8, Ford F-150 Lariat with the 3.5L V-6 EcoBoost and came out on top! Beating the competition with its powerful – 420 hp and 460 lb-ft – engine; the most powerful engine out of the group. The Sierra beat the competition in fuel economy, with a trailer attached, as well.

The editors of the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown praised the Sierra 1500 SLT test truck, for its effortless performance. It offered a max trailering rating of 12,000 lbs. PickupTrucks.com editor, Mark Williams, had the following to say about the GMC Sierra's performance, "This is a mild-mannered pickup that is ready to don its cape and do some heavy lifting, saving the day from a long list of work chores. The engine and transmission are synced up like a smooth-flying jet rocket."

Being crowned the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion validates everything GMC stands for: powerful truck capability uniquely coupled with premium appointments and refinement. Combined crafted interior with bold new styling for 2016, the Sierra handles the toughest tasks in the utmost comfort.

The 2016 Sierra 1500 boasts a bold new look thanks to a new grille, new headlamps with GMC signature LED lighting, available LED tail lights, and distinctive trim elements designed for each trim level. 2016 Sierra HD models are also available with a new Digital Steer Assist system, which eases driving and maneuvering a heavy-duty pickup.

While there's no shortage of truck lovers in the Lone Star state, over the border, here in Oklahoma, we’re seeing an increasing number of truck fans. Northeast Oklahoma, in particular, is commonly known has Green Country, but might soon be known as Truck Country. As America’s fastest growing GMC dealer, we’ve seen the popularity of the GMC Sierra explode here in the sooner state. The GMC Sierra is Ferguson Buick GMC’s highest selling model.

Although we’re based in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, we can serve both Oklahoma and Texas. Take a look at some of our recent GMC Sierra owners from both Oklahoma and Texas:

Tim and Amanda Miller drove 7 hours - from Austin, TX to Broken Arrow, OK - to pick up their brand-new 2016 GMC Sierra Denali at Ferguson Buick GMC!

Charles Young came from Glenpool, Oklahoma to Broken Arrow, OK to purchase their new 2016 GMC Sierra SLT. Mr. Young had the following to say about their Ferguson Buick GMC experience, "Jack Jewell [our sales rep] was great! You have a customer for life! Finance didn't take forever like other dealerships. Very impressed! If I wasn't interested in any extra packages or rims he didn't push them on me. That's what I was impressed with the most."
