2013 Buick Encore received five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

The all-wheel-drive 2013 Buick Encore received the maximum 5 star overall safety rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). The all-wheel-drive model joins the Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, and Enclave as having a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. All-wheel drive is an optional safety feature for the Encore. This safety feature translated into one extra star on the NHTSA's safety rating. The front-drive Buick Encore received a four-star overall rating.

Buick says the 2013 Encore was designed for young professionals and empty-nesters in mind. It's a one-of-a-kind premium subcompact crossover. It has a lavish interior, built with soft-touch material and wood accent trims, terrific fuel economy, and has plenty of storage and cargo room for its tiny subcompact size.

The front-wheel drive 2013 Encore gets 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the all-wheel-drive 2013 Encore get 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

The Encore's tiny size sets it apart. Most crossover competitors are bigger by a couple of inches; however, this does not mean that passengers are cramped. While the overall size of the Encore is smaller than most other subcompact crossovers in the market, the 2013 Encore does not lack interior space and cargo room. The Encore's front passenger seat and back seats fold flat. When all the seats are folded flat, the Encore has 48.4 cubic feet of cargo room.

Buick also made the 2013 Encore the first Buick ever employed with Bose's active noise-cancellation technology. One unique way Buick was able to give the Encore tremendous audio and noise-cancellation technology, was by placing a sub-woofer inside the spare tire found on the rear hatch of the vehicle.

The unique shape of the sub-woofer makes it hard for some people to realize exactly what it is. Not many people recognize it is a key piece in the Encore's noise-cancellation technology. There have been reports of people throwing it out when changing a tire. So, if you ever need to replace a tire in your new Buick Encore, and you take the spare out of the hatch, do not through away the sub-woofer lying in the center of the tire.

The 2013 Buick Encore has the following Package options:
  • Convenience Package - adds electrochromic inside rearview mirror, remote start, dual automatic climate control, 120V outlet and fog lamps.
  • Leather Package - adds leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, power passenger seat, heated seats, driver memory settings for seats, outside mirrors, and climate control.
  • Premium Package - adds rain-sensing wipers, premium Bose audio, front and rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, cargo net and cargo mat.

The 2013 Buick Encore also qualifies as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick. The Encore joins the rest of the Buick lineup as an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
