Buick
revealed the Buick Riviera concept car today at the Shanghai Auto
Show. The
Shanghia Auto Show is a biennial international automobile show that
alternates with the Beijing Auto Show and dates to its inception in
1985. The show is held every two years in the neighborhood of Pudong
in Shanghia, China.
Although Buick is among the oldest automobile brands in the world, and America's oldest auto maker, this new Buick Riviera; however, screams nothing to do with being old. Buick is looking deep into the future. The Riviera concept is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It has bright blue Holographics, gullwing doors, wireless internet, and a contemporary front-end grille.
GM's global design chief, Ed Welburn had the following to say about the concept Riviera, “It is purely a concept, but ...there is a lot that will have a significant influence on future Buicks...This very contemporary expression of the grille we must incorporate in some way in our future vehicles.”
Sweeping
lines on the body's exterior are meant to resemble a moving river.
Yes, the exterior of this car is sheer breathtaking, and the inside
is quite nice, as well, with sand-blasted aluminum alloy trim, suede
and ebony wood. Welburn went on to say, “It is purely a concept,
but ...there is a lot that will have a significant influence on
future Buicks.”
The
Riviera name dates back to GM’s Roadmaster Riviera coupe that
debuted in 1949. GM gave no signs, that they would offer a new
Riviera for sale anytime soon.
